The LEHMANN-UMT freight sledges enable large loads of up to 60 tons to be transported safely over unstable ground such as ice, forest soil or scree with minimal energy input. The system is very gentle on the ground, as the sledges stand on special skids that are individually designed and manufactured depending on the load, transported goods and surface. The various skid equipment is also available individually, so that, for example, entire polar stations can be equipped and moved with Lehmann skids.

Our cargo sledges are special transportation systems that are used under extreme conditions in the most unusual areas of the world. With our tried and tested cargo sleds, we move loads weighing several tons across the solid ice of the Antarctic and the North Pole.
The range of standard sledges extends from 25 t sledges to large 60 t sledges. If required, we can develop tailor-made, individual solutions for your requirements.
The sledges are used to safely transport entire research stations under the most difficult weather conditions (temperatures down to -50 °C). Individual modules of the station, such as living or kitchen modules as well as components, spare parts, research equipment and fuel, are mounted on the cargo sledges. The sledges are then pulled across the ice using one or more snow groomers. It is possible to pull up to 6 sledges suspended one behind the other at the same time.
The containers are attached to the trolleys using a special fastening system. Depending on the number of containers to be transported, the freight trolleys are each equipped with 4 or 8 TwistLock systems.
Our trolleys consist of a frame on which the platform is mounted. There are two steerable axles on the underside of the platform, to which specially designed runners are attached. Depending on the application, the platform can also be fitted with an optional plug-in gate, which is easy to attach and remove. The plug-in gates are available in different versions and sizes.
The sleds have an integrated steering system in which both the front and rear axles also steer. This enables problem-free driving through tight bends, even in convoy. As a result, up to 6 sledges can be pulled simultaneously one behind the other by one snow groomer. Our many years of experience guarantee the highest safety standards and reliability for your use.
A special feature of the slides are the special weld seams, which are characterized by a combination of high cold breaking strength and tensile strength. As a result, they are able to withstand temperatures of up to -50 °C without any problems. You benefit from minimal maintenance and low wear costs.
Different skid configurations are available for the cargo trolleys, which vary depending on the area of application and specific requirements. The skids are either designed as standard or can be customized to suit the ground conditions and the weight to be transported. There are two common designs: Wedge or flat skids. These were developed to optimize the distribution of ground pressure and improve tracking characteristics.
Skids
All skid equipment is designed precisely to your requirements, constructed by our specialists and manufactured at our site in Vogtland. The runners are designed as either wedge or flat runners. Wedge runners allow the sled to travel across a slope without slipping, while flat runners optimize ground pressure distribution.
The flat runners are either additionally coated with a special plastic coating to increase gliding properties or they have a special wear layer that can be replaced if necessary. For applications on rubble or gravel, the skids are specially hardened and equipped with a thicker wear layer, which considerably extends their service life. In the event of wear, only the wear layer is removed and replaced, while the actual skid can continue to be used. You benefit from low wear and maintenance costs.
If required, the skids can be manufactured individually and designed according to your specific requirements. One example of this is complete research stations equipped with removable or hydraulic runners so that they can be moved safely over the ice.
